Climate action in the South DownsThe Climate Change Crisis"We are the first generation to feel the effect of climate change and the last generation who can do something about it" - President Obama, 2014, TwitterMore frequent and intense weather, rising temperatures, ocean acidification and rising sea levels: these are just some of the effects of global warming faced by the places, species and livelihoods of our planet. The unwanted consequences of global warming include reduced agricultural yields, changing migration patterns, declining water supplies, and increased wildfires, flooding and soil erosion. We're noticing the effects here in the South Downs, too. What are we doing to help mitigate the effects of global warming?The UK Government pledged, through the 2008 Climate Change Act, to ensure that the net UK carbon account for the year 2050 is at least 100% lower than the 1990 baseline. This is the world’s first legally binding climate change mitigation target. Locally, the South Downs National Park Authority has committed to working towards ‘Net-Zero with Nature’ by 2040.
